THE RED ROSE OF STRATHMORE - 2m44s
Some flowers they bloom in endless show and all the seasons o’er,
some flower and fall like waves upon the shore.
But of all the blooms in high renown, by all the world adored
there’s none so bonny as the red rose of Strathmore.
The thorn upon a rose’s stem may sting and it may score
The hawthorn builds a fire whose flames may soar
But of all the flowers upon the land, in all the world explored
There’s none so gentle as the red rose of Strathmore
The lily bears a scent so sweet that none by choice ignore
and lavender’s bouquet, may calm restore
But of all the perfumed blooms that fall upon the scented floor
There’s none so fragrant as the red rose of Strathmore
Some flowers they bloom in endless show and all the seasons o’er,
some flower and fall like waves upon the shore.
But of all the blooms in high renown, by all the world adored
there’s none so bonny as the red rose of Strathmore.

Strathmore is the area in Scotland dominated by Glamis Castle, already mentioned in “Bonny Beth’s Waltz”. Although this song could be taken to refer to a particular flower “The Red Rose of Strathmore” who inspired it was actually my dog Rosie who died recently. Her Pedigree name was “The Red Rose of Strathmore” as she was a red and white Welsh springer spaniel and we actually lived in Strathmore when she was a puppy. So apologies to all you horticulturalists out there wondering which Rose the song refers to !
